Choosing a Men’s Electric Shaver
There are so many mens electric shavers available today that determining which one is right for you can be challenging. You can increase the chances of getting a shaver that fits your needs by reviewing the advantages and disadvantages of the different types of shavers and by looking over the many features and options that are available.
Rotary shaver or foil shaver?
The two basic types of electric shavers are rotary shavers and foil shavers.
Rotary shavers have two or three independently pivoting circular blades mounted on the head of the shaver. This makes rotary shavers a little faster at shaving the areas of the face that curve in more than one direction, such as the chin. Rotary shavers are also slightly better at cutting long whiskers due to the design of the blades. This might be something to consider if your beard grows fast or if you occasionally let your beard grow out. Rotary shavers are usually easier to clean and slightly quieter than foil shavers.
Foil shavers have a thin perforated metal surface covering one or more oscillating blades. Most men agree that they get a closer shave with a foil shaver than they get with a rotary shaver. Foil shavers are also better at precise detailing around mustaches and goatees and the larger cutting area allows for a faster shave. Reviews of the two types have found that foil shavers cause less skin irritation than rotary shavers. However, the thin foil surface does wear out and it is prone to damage if dropped.
The available features:
Most electric shavers are rechargeable, although you can still find some plug-in models available. A few Remington shavers allow you to plug it in while you shave if you ever forget to charge it. Several manufacturers make models that have a “quick-charge” feature which will produce enough charge for one shave in a few minutes. A charge indicator can also be a nice feature to get. An often overlooked but very important feature is automatic shut-off when the charge is complete, since overcharging will shorten the life of the shaver battery. For those who travel overseas, a model with dual-voltage capability is an added bonus.
The versatility of a wet/dry shaver is great. You can use them in the shower and with shaving cream, and they can
also be rinsed clean under running water. The more expensive wet/dry shavers also have automatic cleaning, and some will even clean, dry and charge all at the same time.
Some of the other features are; pop-up or slide-out trimmer (great for trimming
mustaches, beards and sideburns), a pivoting or swiveling shaver head (this really helps keep the blades in contact with your skin), foil shavers with a vibrating foil (can help you get a closer and faster shave).
By carefully evaluating which features are important to you, you will be more likely to get a shaver that you will be happy with.

I prefer rotary shavers
They are faster, very easy to use and quite

I stopped using electric shavers a long time ago because they didn’t perform well, and my skin would get just as irritated as when I used a razor blade. But it appears that technology has come a long way since I last used an electric, so maybe it’s time for me to give one a try again.
I like rotary shavers more as they are more user-friendly.

I also prefer rotary shavers as it seems to give me a closer shave. I bought a cheap Philips Noreco shaver. It does ok. It is less irritating than a manual shave. Maybe I will put the Remington shaver on my X-mas list.
I have a rotary shaver, but it usually doesn’t give as close of a shave as I would like. I still usually have to go back to the blade.
Great guide to choosing elecric shavers. I did not know that there were wet/dry electric shavers…are they rotary or foil, or another techology altogether?

Hey thanks for the info! I want to get my boyfriend a new shaver, but I was a little overwhelmed with the market. I like the wet/dry one!
I have been looking for one for dad but I don’t think he likes the wet/dry ones. What would you suggest?
Nice article mate and thanks for sharing it.
I really didn’t know about the wet/dry electric shavers. How this work together ? I think, I need to try this out.
Cheers!
IHA2Cm I’m out of league here. Too much brain power on display!

Each shaver has its advantages. You must weigh in order to make the right choice.
I’m a huge believer in Braun shavers. I had two of them. Dependable as all.

have been visiting ur blog for several days. really love your posts. by the way i am doing a research about this topic. do you know any other good sites or forums that I can find out more? thanks a lot.
I can’t stand electric shavers even after trying several different models. I much prefer a 3 blade razor and believe it or not just water, no soap, foam or gels anywhere.
If any one is complaining of razor burn you should try a pre-shave solution for someone like Anthony Logistics. After shaving use a quality aftershave balm.

Choosing a right Shaver is critical thing to do. Sometimes shavers are hazardous and harsh for the users so we need to choose the right quality of product. It’s good ‘coz you give us more options that we can choose from. Thanks!
Never tried this before. Anyway, nice choices of electric shaver. And, thanks for sharing it with us. Wish I could find one here in Mariana Island. Much thanks again! Until next time!

I have that exact Panasonic Foil shaver and I love it. I’ve known other people that don’t, but it works for me!
Thanks for existing. My husband could NOT shave without unsightly breakouts until we discovered this blog….and a few good products as a result thereof.
My husband has a goatee so it looks like the wet/dry shaver would be best for him. Santa will probably bring it.

Have they improved a lot? Have some friends who swear by them, and some friends who have sworn them off forever.
I grew up with a foil shaver but now use a rotary shaver. My beard comes in very fine, though quickly, so I haven’t really noticed any difference between the two. If the rotary shaver hits a longer hair, it has a tendency to pull it instead of cut it, but otherwise both have very similar features: plug-in, batteries, dry-only, etc.
I had a foil shaver about ten years ago. I didn’t like it because I didn’t feel it got as close of a shave as using a regular razor AND it irritate my face. I think if I ever went back to an electric model I would want one that worked with shaving cream to help alleviate that irritation.
Nice pal! Passing by and found your blog. You have unique explanation to this men’s grooming. I’ve been using foil shaver too. I do agree that the foil surface does ware out. No doubt that sometimes its irritating..But hey, thanks for your post!
Nice post … both rotary and foil shavers are having different functionalities. The choice depends on the mood of the person but according to me rotary shaver is better because it is faster then foil shaver.
I’ve been using foil shaver for almost a month and I can say that this is really good, faster at shaving and less irritating. Thanks for sharing this nice post with us.
I need to buy another shaver so thanks for explaining the difference between the two.
I bought my husband an electric razor to use to try to cut down on the number of disposable razors we needed to buy but he has told me multiple times that it still irritates his skin like a disposable does. He has a rotary shaver so maybe we should give the foil shaver a try.
From my experience rotary shavers are better but thats only me. People should try both types before deciding which one to take because every skin and beard are different.

I agree with you Max, rotary shavers are the best kind!
I have been using a rotary to shave the top of my head clean for the last 15 years. For Mens Grooming I would definitely select a supply company that carries it.
I personally just got a self cleaning one and-it is great. It cuts down on the amount of blades I have had to buy as well.

I have always recommened foil shavers to our readers as black men temd to do better with them. Rotatry shavers tend to push our curly hair back into our skin. You have presented some great choices in your article. I will pass them on to ur readers.

Nice buyers guide! Although I like a bit of stubble myself so I just picked up a £20 beard trimmer and its a god send haha
Rotary shavers is what my husband always asks for. He said his grandfather had one of the foil shavers and would throw it against the wall. I don’t know if my hubby ever tried one but that apparently stuck in his mind,

I prefer foil shavers although i must admit i shave myself with razors. Shavers are more suitable when on trip, because you can easily shave yourself in any occasion, like on airports, in train, etc.
Now i know which one to buy
I prefer rotary shavers as they give me a closer shave. I bought a cheap Philips Noreco shaver. It is less quicker than a manual shave.
