Safety razor shaving advice

The first thing I want to ask is does it matter what type of blades you use in your safety razor and which brands did you find the best?

Second, I like getting a close shave so when I rub my hands on my face it feels smooth. I know you’re suppose to go with the grain, or in some places a little across the grain, but I get the closest shave when I go against the grain. The problem is, I get cut sometimes and once in a while I get ingrown hairs (not a lot, but it still bothers me). So is this wrong? Should I only be shaving with the grain?

Third, I would to know from those who go for a smooth feel to the face after a shave (you know, baby smooth), does it only feel smooth running your hands with the grain or does it also feel smooth against the grain?

As far as blades go what matters is that you have a sharp edge. If you use the same razor more than say 5 times the razor will start to wear and you won’t get as clean of a shave. You can still use most blades more than 5 times but as a rule of thumb, if you want that baby smooth shave you need to change your blade regularly. It really doesn’t matter what brand you use as long as the edge is as close to brand new as possible.

As far as shaving for me it depends on how long I let myself go since I last shaved. If I have a lot of facial hair I trim the excess hair first. Then I use Keel’s (or how ever its spelled) brand shaving cream. Its a little more expensive but its got vitamin E, aloe and skin moisturizers that help reduce razor burn and irritation. Then when I actually shave I go with the grain at first then to finish up I go against the grain. I try to avoid going from side to side. Just up and down where I can help it. This should answer the third part of your question because when I shave like this my face is smooth both with the grain and against it. But you need to shave pretty much every day to maintain this because facial hair grows faster than weeds in a garden.

Basically, any razor will do as long as it is not rusted or too dirty. For me, I throw blades which is used in 3 weeks already. Whatever is it’s added features, bacteria still sets ins in wet and moist.

Yeah rusty razors are horrible, ask me about it, I know that for a fact :P
I usually just use a shaver but I’m not sure which is better. I think razors get a more “baby smooth” result as you said.
